Freeze Damage

Boat insurance policies do not commonly provide coverage for freeze damage because one can easily prevent it by winterizing your boat in advance of an early freeze.

This is a hairline crack in the engine block which occurred due to freezing and subsequently corroded. Such cracks are caused by not winterizing or improperly winterizing the engine.

Similarly, the rust stains on the side of this engine indicate where the block was damaged by freezing.

Winter Storage Tips

Improperly storing your boat or covering it without proper ventilation will invite mold formation. Periodically inspect the boat for throughout the winter or any other storage period to discover potential leaks which may permit mold to develop.
